Introducing the Flying Legend TP-150 Tandem Military Trainer
The Flying Legend TP-150 is a basic military trainer with low acquisition and maintenance costs. The platform was modeled upon the successful Brazilian Tucano 312 high performance training and air-to-ground support aircraft.
The concept of the affordable and durable military basic training was born from the efforts of two Italian entrepreneurs in 2010.
The civilian version led the way to demonstrating the efficacy of the design and is sold
worldwide. The aluminum airframe with extra strength landing gear renders it a superb platform for military pilot training whether in fixed or retractable version.
It operates effectively from a variety of runway surfaces, including grass, gravel, concrete or asphalt. The cockpit layout
provides the instructor pilot with a greater view to optimize their effectiveness from the rear seat of this tandem arrangement.
The +6/-3g load factor aircraft is designed to withstand the rigors of a military training environment. The airframe supports a variety of aerobatic maneuvers including Spins—Loops—Rolls—Cuban 8 and Hammerhead stalls.
The TP-150 is available with additional features to support unique military training requirements. These include retractable gear, high performance propellers, auxiliary wing tanks, Recovery system, additional hard points and custom avionics.
The proven 150hp air/water cooled engine is a reliable and economical engine for its assigned missions.
A turbine powered version is under development and is scheduled for flight testing this summer.
The design of the aircraft affords a dual role capability as a military basic trainer and a very economical patrol aircraft. The first military purchaser of the aircraft implemented this approach.
A kit staged design accommodates an option not found to date in military training aircraft. A quick build version developed for the experimental market can be used to train military maintenance personnel to assemble the aircraft, thus further reducing acquisition and maintenance costs.
This is a significant incentive to countries focused on optimizing their defense expenditures.
Flying Legend has created the first Warbird Replica to become a Warbird!
The company is headquartered in Italy with operational facilities in the USA and a new production facility in Vietnam.
The airplane is entirely built in aluminium 2024T3 and 6061T6 and is coated with a durable epoxy primer to guarantee the protection of the structure throughout its lifecycle.
The aircraft has a maximum takeoff weight (MTOW) of 750kg (1653lb) with a load factor of +6/-3 Gs, or a MTOW of 820kg (1800lb) with a load factor of +4/-2Gs (both with a design safety factor of 1.5).
The “TP-150” is offered as an Experimental Aircraft in two versions:
- The first (suitable for initial training), has fixed landing gear and may be fitted with either a fixed or variable – pitch propeller.
- The second (ideal for advanced training), features retractable landing gear and a variable – pitch propeller.
Both aircraft are suitable for basic acrobatic manouvres and spin.
“TP-150” – Fixed Gear Version (TP-150 FG)
The TP-150 FG is highly recommended as a fixed landing gear basic trainer and may be supplied with either a fixed or variable pitch propeller. Features include basic double instrument panels for forward and aft pilot including Dynon EFIS, analog instruments, radio, transponder, ELT, autopilot (2-axis servos) and may be equipped with various IFR Avionics Systems depending on customer requirements.
